Well my car in in the shop today.
It has needed rear breaks for a really long time and so I bit the bullet. After my window fiasco the dealer gave me a laundry list of things my car "needed". I supplied that list to my shop and asked them to evaluate what I "needed".....well the good news is the dealer has a very different definition of "need" than my shop does.
I am still going to be out a chunk of change*, but my car will be safe to drive again.
*Not the $2500+ the dealer would have charged me for the "needed" work.

Not that it helps you get to work but the guy I am at is Arco Tire & Services in Teele Sq. They have always been great with my car and have been thus far really good on price too. They tell you what you "need" to do and what you can wait on too, which is really nice.

Date: 17 Jun 2008 19:08 (UTC)Remember that big chunk of money I spend on my car 8 months ago. 800 bucks to fix the coolant leak?
Its leaking again.
I bought more coolant, probably enough to last me as long as the car will.
I hate dealerships.

Date: 17 Jun 2008 19:54 (UTC)The problem is that they most likely replaced a part that wasn't actually causing the problem. When I found out the price I should have just told them not to touch it and bought some coolant. Its not that expensive and the car has 100K miles on it.
Im certainly not going back to that particular dealership since they were basically terrible. I could bring it elsewhere I guess but I really don't want to spend any money on the problem. I don't think they will fix the problem for free just because someone else replaced the wrong part, but maybe im mistaken.
Its always been a slow leak so it takes 6 months to find out if they have fixed it or not. Its not like the time the water pump sprung a leak.
